Is It Seriously True That Organic Food Could Improve Your Health?

The principle of "organic food" has been with us for generations. Lately however, it is being more popular and has turned into quite a hype drawing a lot of folk into it. The organic food industry is thriving because lots of folks are taking an interest and they tend to be more expensive than non-organic food. Just like any new craze, the question must be asked; Is all the positive reviews of organic food the true or is this yet another strategy to try and get more money from the general consumer? Due to the fact its definitely be costing more, is it emphatically better for us?

To find out all the information and facts, lets take an initial look at what the term "organic" actually means to us. The term "organic" in connection with food, signifies that it has not been changed unnaturally. By way of example, organic plants have always been produced without the use of pesticides, ionizing radiation, synthetic fertilizers, GM (Genetically Modified) organisms or sludge from sewers. When considering the fundamental protein foods such as eggs, dairy and meat, antibiotics or Growth Hormone (GH) are not given to the animals.

The process of growing commercial organic food is not an easy one as a total of 3 years have to pass before their crops can be termed "organic" For the first two years the fertility of the land needs to be established and only after that are crops allowed to be grown. Clearly, growing organic food is no easy task and thus the price tag can be justified Great as this all appears, some still contemplate if it is still all necessary. Will there be any other justification why I must be interested in buying organic food?

It certainly seems there are more advantages, as research has shown that organic food is more nutritious. A sample of milk obtained by researchers revealed up to twice as many natural antioxidants, 50% more Vitamin E and 70% more Beta Carotene then milk taken from regular cows. Organic food contains no extra substances, for example fertilizers and insecticides, which can be detrimental to your health. By not containing these carcinogenic elements the food is better for your health. Although it is a personal choice, many people have reported that they enjoy the taste of organic food and that it is a main reason why they are happy to spend the extra money on it.

Organic food is certainly also beneficial with regard to the environment. This is because organic food is not fed any insecticides and pesticides when it is grown. Although this does take a whole lot more effort and time, it has a positive effect on the environment with the absence of the chemicals that are usually used. Pollution is adding to the important dilemma of global warming, however organic farming keeps pollution to a minimum which is good news. When animals are not raised with the intention of retailing organic foods, they are often mistreated by keeping them in tiny enclosures and force feeding them to encourage increased growth over a shorter amount of time whereas organic farmers tend to take good care of their animals, even allowing them to roam free.

The main points are quite obvious; organic food is more suitable for the environment, the welfare of the animals and undoubtedly for your health. Now its just up to you to make the final choice. Of course, as pointed out at the beginning, the price of organic food can be quite higher then normally produced food. But always remember that when buying on the organic market you are doing something good for yourself and for the environment so personally I feel it is a small price to pay.
