With the help of science and technology, there are now different drugs that can be used as medicine. There are drugs useful for curing specific diseases, alleviating symptoms, and so many more. However, there are still people that depend on organic ingredients for them to be healthy. Spice is just one of these ingredients. This is not unusual because of the health benefits of spices.

There are so many different kinds of spices that people use these days. Each spice has its medicinal property aside from just being something that gives extra flavor to food. One property that many of these helpful plants have would be the antiseptic or antibacterial property. Plants like thyme, oregano, marjoram, garlic, cinnamon, onion, and peppermint are effective in preventing and dealing with infection.

There are also some aromatic and flavor enhancing plants that people use to regulate blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood sugar levels. These are taken by people to manage diseases like hypertension and diabetes. Just some examples of these plants are chives, bay leaf, turmeric, onion, and cinnamon.

There are also some plants that are taken in order to help with a person's digestion. For example, thyme and sage are great for easy digestion of fatty foods. Coriander is good for preventing gas. For indigestion, you can make use of peppermint, peppercorns, and turmeric to feel better.

You also have spices that have the special ability to prevent certain diseases from happening. According to studies, basil can help prevent asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Orange peel is rich in vitamin C making it good against colds and scurvy. Many believe the chili pepper is a wonder spice against prostate cancer and ulcer.

A spice may also contain substances like vitamins A and E. An antioxidant helps keep the cells healthy against the effects of oxidation reactions. Thyme, oregano, dill weed, basil, peppermint, parsley, and turmeric are considered as natural antioxidants that you can take if you do not want to take tablets or pills.

Diuretic property is another property that a spice may possess. Diuretics are very important since these substances help the body remove excess fluid. This is normally used for those with kidney problems. Three examples of plants that are used as diuretics are garlic, cilantro, and anise star.

Using a spice instead of a synthetic compound has so many advantages. One of these advantages is that it is very easy to use. You can just use these plants while you are cooking. You can even put in your drinks especially on tea, milk, and other kinds of beverages. This makes ingesting a spice easier and hassle free.

There are still many health benefits of spices that were not mentioned. Using natural substances is a good thing to do because they do not contain any harmful chemicals. A spice is also cheaper than drugs. You can even plant them in your backyard so you can make use of them whenever you want without any kind of difficulty.
